A peek into the classroom
Sometimes students work so hard on projects or assignments that do not get recognized due to the fact that it's only for a class, therefore, once they turn it in, it is never really seen or used again. By providing a few samples of my academic achievements, I get the opportunity to share the idea of how I work in the classroom.
AICE Travel &Tourism
One of our assignments for travel and tourism was to read and follow the DECA idea challenge of 2015. We had to build something related to the travel and tourism industry made out of only cardboard boxes. The main part of the assignment was to create a video with an explanation and process of what we were attempting to achieve. I got together with four other people to form our group so that we could accomplish this assignment together. After we all did the executing part with the cardboard boxes, I then gave everyone there verbal roles for the video and explained what each person would be saying. Then, I filmed all of the clips except for the one I was in and edit the video to make it look as professional as possible.
AICE English Language
After reading "The Great Gatsby," my class was assigned to create some sort of media that imitated the plot of the novel. We were assigned our groups and had to fulfill the task in working with them as best as we could. So we put our minds together and came up with the idea of setting up our video like a tv episode. After all the filming I offered to put together and edit the video and this was the final result.
Philosophy
As we all know, there is a great variety of topics that are learned in philosophy. Which allows students to expand there capability of critical thinking and forming there own opinions. Multiple essays were assigned throughout the time of taking this course.
Sample of one of my essays based on the movie Animal Farm:
Identify at least three areas of our society you think are inequitable and hence unethical, specifying your reasons why you think so on each.
Our society has been filled with nothing but constant issues occurring over and over again and we have not absorbed the idea of what a few of our problems are in our own environment. We watched in the movie, Animal Farm, that one of the issues was how the russian social democratic party seized control of Czarist Russia which renamed itself part of the communist party. We have obstacles as bad as this one happening in our own society which are completely unethical and even inequitable such as the education system, political instability within elections this year, and in a more personal level, insecurities in our own lives.
The educational system has been developing throughout the years of my experiences jumping from elementary to middle to high school. However, developing in a positive way, I wouldn’t think so. For example, most of the City Halls in each county are implementing their ideas into all school systems without thinking that there would be no consequences. As a young girl, I was taught the proper techniques and tricks to be a great test taker. That was the time where we still took test on paper and where quizzes were not submitted right when we picked the letter B. This was a drastic change for my class of over one thousand students. We were never taught all the tools that were provided on the computer when we took any exams. How could we be expected to go from writing, taking notes, and test taking on paper for over a long range of time that would fall under the category of years to using modern technology for absolutely everything we did in school. This was a major adaptation that my generation had to make. For some students enjoyed it and found the positive in change and for others like me, struggled with the unexpected change. This is a one major issue in our society that is completely unethical, we need to find a solution for our educational system that does not involve a change in the way some students were raised to learn.
Another area of our society that is lacking a solution is our elections this year in the political standpoint. In my opinion, I was never into politics and did not quite understand the purpose of democracy. As I matured and began to understand the affects that the political decisions could have on citizens of the United States I became more aware of how this year election is running into a wall of future problems. Some people might find this a little funny, in the sense that our lead republican candidate wants to build a wall to insure that immigrants will not be able to enter our country. Talking about drastic changes in the previous paragraph, this can also be considered a drastic change as well. The reason that politics has converted in a major issue in our society is because the two sides of the party are proposing ideas that are causing citizens to encounter a stage of rage which only transforms them to have some form of hate for the other party. Bernie would like to provide free college which is an absolute great idea but this nation has had tradition, morality, and customs for over hundreds of years and thinking that colleges could be free is not as promising as one may assume, how could this be possible? To clarify, on one side, their are nothing but doubts. On the other side, there is nothing but racism, discrimination, and excessive measures that can convert our country on each other. This is a major inequitable issue that needs to be taken care of.
The third issue is one that is not perceived with as great of importance then other problems would most likely be taken care of. This is more of a personal issue that as a society as a grand impact on our economy and decisions that we make. This is soley our insecurities. students, employers, and families all experience obstacles in their lives that bring them down so much that only causes more suicidal rates, lower attendance at schools, and lower employment since some can not get up to go to work. The pressure that the world has put on our shoulders has not come up with any proposals on how to help people recover from hard situations that have these effects on our society. For example, with the stereotypical standards of not having a child before the “normal” age on mid twenties young adults feel forced and pressured to having abortions because of their own insecurities of being accepted in the world. Another example would be in the case of a couple who have been experiencing many issues in their marriage to the point of faith being lost and alcohol being of priority, yes you would think why not just get a divorce. However, one person in the relationship could feel an imbalance of power to be capable of leaving on her or his own due to lack of confidence and complete insecurities. As the previous issues, this one has also not been addressed and needs a solution.
At the end of the day, most of us have our own perspective on what obstacles they would prefer to encounter. As a society that needs to be united as one to make proper decisions, solutions will eventually be proposed with the right people at hand. Animal Farm was a tough movie to watch due to all the problems that needed to be encounter but it showed how if something is not addressed then it will never be solved.
AICE Global Perspective 2
The purpose of this course was to provide us with a telescope that can be directly pointed to every single place in the world allowing us to absorb what we see and perceive the world from a "global perspective." Our one assignment of the year was to write a research paper about a topic question that intrigues us.
My research question was "Should the consumption of alcohol be further restricted or even banned?" Click this button to take a look at my research paper.
AICE Global Perspective AS(1)
In AICE Global one, we had to create a powerpoint presentation with another research question. My question was about Capital Punishment and how each religion impacts there perspective on how to handle crimes.
AICE Travel & Tourism
In this course we have have two Papers, paper one and paper two. Paper two is what we have been working on all year. Our task is to P.E.E. ( Plan, Execute, and Evaluate) a project.
My group decided to host a conference at the restaurant, Twin Peaks, giving 50 students a behind the scenes, exclusive look of 5 different aspects of this particular industry. To read my paper 2, click on the button below.
